An IT specialist in the East Riding village of Swanland has been named the winner of the Mail's Kingston Communications-sponsored Communications Technology in Business Award.

Wizard Wi-Fi Solutions reportedly won the award due to its reputation for taking broadband to places that other telecoms companies have failed to reach.

The company has been setting up hotspots at hotels, conference and leisure centres and internet services that grow revenues for the businesses concerned.

Wizard Wi-Fi Managing Director Roy Allen told the East Riding Daily Mail: "Wherever people gather together, either for work or socially, they are looking for connectivity to the internet and providing it either free or at a fee that can dramatically increase takings.

"Our service also includes a site survey to locate the wireless coverage where it is needed most, equipment installation and testing and an annual support package" he added.

Mr Allen also claimed that setting up a wireless internet access point can help firms attract new customers and improve the branding of their venue.

By the start of 2009 Yorkshire was one of only three regions in the UK that had achieved broadband enablement for all of its telephone exchanges.
